New details have emerged regarding the dismissal of Beau DeMayo, former head writer of ‘X-Men ’97’.

DeMayo was removed from his position in March 2024 after completing work on the first two seasons of the Disney+ series. At the time, Marvel did not provide a reason for his termination.

On 15 August 2024, DeMayo took to Instagram, alleging that his writing credit for ‘X-Men ’97’ had been stripped after he posted fan art celebrating Gay Pride. He wrote, “I’ll have more to say soon but must take a step back from social media to find a safer space for me to be out, proud, and nerdy. Stay tuned.”

Marvel responded in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, stating, “Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.”

According to The InSneider by Jeff Sneider, DeMayo allegedly sent inappropriate photos of himself to young male staff members, featuring him in various states of undress and striking sexually suggestive superhero poses. DeMayo was reportedly asked to cease this behaviour but continued nonetheless. Additionally, DeMayo is accused of groping an assistant and being emotionally and physically abusive towards staff.

Sneider also noted that DeMayo was reportedly dismissed from Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ due to similar behaviour. Marvel is now in the process of rewriting ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 and removing DeMayo’s executive producer credit.

DeMayo has not yet responded to the allegations.
