Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, took the top spot on the list of the highest tax-paying Indian celebrity, contributing a staggering Rs 92 crore for the financial year 2024.
The actor, who scored massive box office hits, amassing over Rs 2,000 crore at the global box office, leads the list of top 10 highest tax-paying celebrities, states a report on Fortune India.This list also included some of the biggest names from Bollywood, sports, and the South Indian film industry.
SRK reportedly shelled out Rs 92 crore tax following a triumphant year at the box office, brand endorsements, and other business ventures.He was followed by Thalapathy Vijay. The Tamil superstar outpaced several Bollywood heavyweights, ranking second with a tax payment of Rs 80 crore. Vijay’s immense popularity in the South Indian film industry, combined with the success of his films and endorsements, has positioned him as a major contributor to the nation’s revenue.
Salman Khan, who had a lukewarm year at the box office, still came in third as he shelled out Rs 75 crore in tax. With his film ventures, television stints and endorsements, Salman remains consistent on this list. Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan continued to be a significant force in the Indian entertainment industry, contributing Rs 71 crore in taxes. Bachchan most recently featured in the Rs 1000 crore blockbuster film ‘Kalki 2898AD’.
Cricketer Virat Kohli, came in fifth with a tax payment of Rs 66 crore. Kohli, MS Dhoni (Rs 38 crore) and Sachin Tendulkar (Rs 28 crore) were the only three sports personalities who made it to the top 10 list. Additionally, sports personalities like former cricketer Sourav Ganguly (Rs 23 crore) and Hardik Pandya (Rs 13 crore) also made the top 20 list.
Meanwhile, Bollywood actors like Ajay Devgn contributed Rs 42 crore in taxes this year, and Ranbir Kapoor shelled out Rs 36 crore. While ‘Fighter’ star Hrithik Roshan came in 10th on the list with a tax payment of Rs 28 crore.
Other celebrities who made significant tax contributions this year include comedian Kapil Sharma (Rs 26 crore), and Bollywood stars Kareena Kapoor (Rs 20 crore), Shahid Kapoor (Rs 14 crore), and Katrina Kaif (Rs 11 crore). South Indian superstars Mohanlal (Rs 14 crore) and Allu Arjun (Rs 14 crore) also featured prominently on the list. Kiara Advani also made it to the top 20, shelling out (Rs 12 crore) and Pankaj Tripathi (Rs 11 crore). Actor Aamir Khan took the 21st spot on the list with a tax payment of Rs 10 crore.
