Shoemaker Mile Stakes at Hollywood Park
Las Vegas, NV – The 69th running of the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile Stakes comes our way from Betfair Hollywood Park this Saturday June 30th. Horses three years old and upward will be featured as they chase their share of the $300,000 purse over a distance of one mile on Hollywood Park’s turf track.
The Shoemaker Mile has drawn a very good field of eight horses for race 9 on Hollywood Park’s Saturday card. Post time is 5:10 PM. Here is a look at the contenders and the credentials that brought them to one of the two Grade 1 races on Saturday’s race card.
Little Mike – has won a stunning five of his last six races – a fourth in the Grade 3 Canadian Turf Stakes at Gulfstream on March 3rd being the only blemish over that span. Included in the wins are the Grade 1 Turf Classic Stakes from Churchill Downs on May 5th and the Florida Sunshine Millions Turf Stakes in January this year. Little Mike is a serious threat in any race – this one included.
Mr. Commons – Mr. Commons won the Grade 2 Arcadia Stakes on February 4th at Santa Anita to follow a win at the Sir Beaufort Stakes on that same track, on December 26th. Since that win Mr. Commons has finished second in two straight races – the Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile Stakes and the Grade 2 American Handicap last time out on this track. He has finished first or second in seven of his last eight starts and is as consistent as they come.
Jeranimo – Jeranimo finished second at the Grade 2 San Gabriel on January 16th at Santa Anita after winning that race the year before. Jeranimo holds victories at the Grade 2 Strub Stakes on synthetic and more recently the Grade 2 Citation Handicap on Hollywood turf in November. Jeranimo beat favorite Mr. Commons at the Oak Tree Mile last fall but finished two places behind Mr. Commons (seventh) at the Breeders’ Cup Mile last year. More recently he finished fourth in the Grade 1 Kilroe Mile and second last time out in the Grade 3 San Francisco Mile Stakes at Golden Gate in April.
Corporate Jungle – has won four of his last five starts – three in a row including the grade 3 Appleton Stakes at Gulfstream on March 31s and the Elkwood Stakes last time out at Monmouth on May 19th. In seven career starts Corporate Jungle has four wins and a second place finish. Needless to say, he is in the best form of his career!
Hudson Landing – won two straight Allowance Optional Claiming races at Golden Gate this year and has followed it up with a couple of impressive graded stakes results – a win in the Grade 3 San Francisco Mile and a second most recently in the Grade 3 Berkeley Handicap in May. Hudson Landing is in peak form and is another that should challenge on Saturday.

Dubai X Y Z – has six career starts and five wins! But Dubai X Y Z takes a huge step up in competition this week in his first graded stakes action. He does know this track well however – two wins and a third place finish in three starts here.
Liberian Freighter – returned to action after a nearly 11 month layoff with a decent third in the Grade 2 American Handicap. Last April, Liberian Freighter won the Grade 2 Arcadia and then won the Grade 3 Inglewood Handicap on this track. She then went on to finish fifth in the 2011 American Handicap and sixth in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile Stakes last year before the lengthy layoff. She has won five of 11 career starts on this track however.
Suggestive Boy – will be making his US debut after a very successful career in South America. Suggestive Boy comes into the Shoemaker Mile having won three straight races and could surprise!
