Sixty Sails Handicap at Hawthorne Race Course
Las Vegas, NV – The Grade 3 Sixty Sails Handicap comes our way from Hawthorne Race Course in Cicero, Illinois this Saturday, April 20. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will take center stage as they race 1 1/8 miles on Hawthorne’s main dirt track for a purse of $200,000.
A strong field of six females will line up in the Sixty Sails – race 7 on Hawthorne’s Saturday card. Post time is 4:35 PM. Here is a brief glimpse into the past performances of all six combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.
Brushed by a Star – had three straight wins last summer including the Grade 2 Molly Pitcher at Monmouth July 29, the Iowa Distaff Stakes on June 29 and another win at an Allowance at Churchill Downs on June 10. She had a little hiccup with a fifth in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign but she bounced back with a second in the Mari Hulman George Stakes, an impressive win in the Grade 2 Chilukki over Joyful Victory and a very good second in the Grade 2 Falls City Stakes at Churchill Downs November 22. She was another good second behind Joyful Victory in the inaugural Houston Ladies Classic January 26 at Sam Houston January 26 and finished third last time out in the Grade 1 Santa Margarita Stakes behind Joyful Victory March 16. She has placed in nine of her last 10 starts and should be near or at the top again this week. After all, Joyful Victory is not entered!
Disposablepleasure – Todd Pletcher pupil Disposablepleasure had looked very good at the end of 2011 but has not been quite the same since. In seven starts last year, Disposablepleasure has just two seconds and a third place finish. She finished fourth in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks on July 21, was a disappointing sixth in the Grade 2 Lake Placid at Saratoga in August and then recorded a tenth two back in the Grade 1 Juddmonte Spinster at Keeneland in October. She has raced once since October and it was a nice win March 17 in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream for her first win in 16 months. She is the best of the rest after Brushed by a Star and should be in the mix Saturday.
Royal Lahaina – has yet to race in stakes company in her 19 career starts but is coming off three straight Allowance Optional Claiming scores at Aqueduct – the last being March 29 and the others coming February 15 and December 14. She has five wins, four seconds and two third place finishes in her 19 career starts and makes a much anticipated stakes debut for trainer Gustavo Rodriguez in the Sixty Sails.
Little Ms Protocol – has raced four straight minor stakes races ahead of the Sixty Sails but is coming off a fourth in the Gold Coast Stakes at Delta Downs March 22. Before that was a win in the Louisiana Bred Premier Night Distaff at Delta Downs February 2 and a pair of seconds – at the Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Stakes at Fair Grounds December 8 and at the Treasure Chest Stakes November 17 at Delta Downs. She has 17 career starts with seven wins, four seconds and three third place finishes.

Her best career result came in January 2012 – a win in the minor Genesis Stakes at Delta Downs.
Maude S – raced to an impressive second back in June in the Grade 3 Chicago Handicap and has been up and down since. Last time out was a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Keeneland April 5 after an Allowance score here back on December 14. Her other recent race on this track was a seventh in the minor Indian Maid Handicap in October.
