Trent Alexander-Arnold Pinned as Real Madrid’s Primary Target Next Summer: Report – News18

Acclaimed football journalist Fabrizio Romano believes Real Madrid will go all out to secure the signing of Alexander, be it in January or when his contract with Liverpool expires.
Trent Alexander Arnold has reportedly emerged as the top priority for Real Madrid. The Liverpool side-back is set to become a free agent in the next summer transfer window, and the Anfield hierarchy has not yet confirmed anything about extending his stay.
Amid growing speculations about his future, transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano believes Real Madrid will go all out to secure the signing of Alexander, be it in January or when his contract with Liverpool expires.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold is Real Madrid’s target number One, Two and Three!,” Romano claimed, as per Madrid Zone.
Real Madrid have reportedly kept their eyes on Arnold since the last summer window. They desperately want a permanent replacement for Dani Carvajal. The veteran Spaniard is set to remain out for the entire season due to an ACL injury he suffered last month.
At present, their backup option, Lucas Vasquez, is also unavailable for a muscle tear. In this scenario, boss Carlo Ancelotti is forced to use midfielder Federico Valverde as the right-back in his first team. Real Madrid may approach Arnold during winter transfer, even though his Liverpool contract remains valid till August 2025.
Considering Arnold’s importance in Arne Slot’s set-up, the Premier League side may try their best to keep him at Anfield. The England international is reportedly not interested in signing a new contract with Liverpool. It gives hope to Real Madrid, who will put much focus on strengthening their defence next summer.
The La Liga giants, however, will also keep their financial situation in mind while negotiating the deal with Liverpool. If Arnold decides to leave before his contract ends, Liverpool may demand a hefty fee.
Despite rumours linking him with Real Madrid, Arnold now prefers to focus on his responsibilities at Anfield.
Addressing the topic, Liverpool boss Arne Slot said, “These players are used to being linked with all the top clubs daily, whether they have contracts or not. Maybe if you’re 17 or 18 years of age it could be difficult for you. But Trent has won the league, has won the Champions League.”
Arnold is currently recovering from a hamstring injury that he picked up during Liverpool’s last Premier League outing against Aston Villa. He was taken off in the 25th minute, with Conor Bradley coming in as the substitute.
As per ESPN, Arnold is expected to regain fitness soon and will be available for the next Champions League clash against Real Madrid, scheduled for November 28.
