Star Indian batter Virat Kohli bowed down to Ravichandran Ashwin as the latter picked up a five-wicket haul on Sunday to choke Bangladesh in a mammoth chase of 515. India defeated the visitors by 280 runs with 5 sessions remaining to go 1-0 up in the two-match series. Ashwin, who scored his six Test hundred in the first innings, returned 6/88 in India’s second essay. Overall, it was Ashwin’s 37^th five-fer in Test cricket, equaling the record of legendary Shane Warne.

It was the 58^th over of Bangladesh’s chase when Ashwin dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz with a flighted delivery and completed a five-wicket haul. He thus became the first-ever cricketer to score a hundred and also pick a five-fer twice at the same venue.

While other teammates congratulated the veteran off-spinner for his feat, Kohli bowed down to salute Ashwin. The moment has now gone viral on social media.

Ashwin was adjudged the Player of the Match for his all-round excellence at his home ground. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, he said was an amazing feeling to play in front of the home crowd.

“Every time I play in Chennai in front of this crowd, it’s an amazing feeling for me,” Ashwin said.

“It was an opportunity to fight and dig in deep, that’s one of the reasons why we all play the game. I have seen so many of my teammates do that in the past. I just kept it really simple, have to thank Jadeja for what he did, he just took me through the tough phases of the innings,” he added.

Ashwin further reflected on his century on the first day of the Test match which lifted the Indian innings.

“Quite a special knock on the first day, didn’t sink in until day two. Glad I ended up with a few wickets today as well. I make a living by bowling, so bowling comes first all the time. I think like a bowler mostly but I have made a conscious effort to think like a batter when I walk out with a bat in my hand,”
