Virat Kohli is making his Test return against Bangladesh in Chennai with his last such game coming during the South Africa tour.

Indian men’s cricket team’s home season got underway from Thursday with the Chennai Test against Bangladesh. Plenty of top India stars returned to action including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant among others. However, it wasn’t a happy return with the bat for the duo of Rohit and Kohli – two of the finest batters of the modern era.

While Rohit was caught at second slip after managing just six, Kohli was caught behind for six as well. The fans gathered at the Chepauk may have been looking forward to a special innings from the two superstars but were left disappointed by their early exits.

Their presence though continues to delight them with a clip of Kohli drawing a huge roar from the crowd after waving at them during Day 2 of the contest.

Kohli was given a loud reception too when he walked out to bat on the first day of the series opener. However, his stay in the middle was short-lived as he became fast bowler Hasan Mahmud’s one of five victims.

India recovered from an early batting collapse to 376-all out in 91.2 overs thanks to a brilliant strokeful century from Ravichandran Ashwin who was out after scoring 113 off 133, an innings that featured 11 fours and two sixes.

Ashwin combined with his spin twin Ravindra Jadeja to add 199 runs for the seventh wicket to lift India from the depths of 144/6 to 376-all out. Jadeja played a fine innings of 86 off 124 with the help of 10 fours and two sixes.

Hasan became the first Bangladesh bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test on Indian soil, finishing with figures of 5/83 from 22.2 overs. India have never lost to Bangladesh in 13 Tests so far having won 11 with two ending in a draw.
