It’s difficult to juggle parenthood, work, and personal health, but 36-year-old Sanjukta Patra, a passionate YouTuber chef from Orissa, has demonstrated it is achievable with perseverance and self-control. Sanjukta struggled with getting around, domestic chores, and even her confidence after gaining weight with her second pregnancy, reaching 82 kg. She started a life-changing weight loss story after being motivated to get back to her fitness level, and in just six months, she lost 22 kg. What’s her secret? a disciplined way of living, exercises at home, and a special dry fruit smoothie that became a mainstay of her diet. Here’s how this amazing transformation was accomplished by the mother of two.

Sanjukta’s story of losing weight and gaining her confidence back

During my son’s birth, I weighed 82 kg. From March 2023 to October 2023, my weight remained the same as I was breastfeeding. However, I began my weight loss journey in October 2023, and by April-May 2024, I had reduced my weight to 59-60 kg. I went from XL to M and from 98-100 cm to 86-87 cm in waist size.

Turning point

I faced a similar situation after my first delivery when I went from 55 kg before delivery to 78 kg. Within a year post-delivery, I lost approximately 15 kg in 8-9 months. However, during my son’s delivery, my weight gain was much higher. I struggled to wear my dresses, walk even 1 km, or complete my daily household tasks. Overweight issues also led to varicose veins, which motivated me to make significant changes. My desire to wear my old, beautiful dresses and walk or run 5 km kept me determined despite the challenges.
The most challenging part was not being able to appear on camera or wear my favorite outfits, which pushed me to regain my old shape.

What kept you going?

Having done it once, I knew I could lose weight again. Initially, maintaining discipline while managing family, household chores, and part-time work was tough. However, losing the first 6 kg gave me determination. Appreciation from friends and my husband’s constant support motivated me further. As a marathon runner, my husband teased and encouraged me to stay fit and young. Slowly, I gained confidence, wore my old dresses, and appeared on camera again.

Diet followed

Morning: Green tea or green tea with lemon (no food for 30 minutes).
Breakfast: Special dry fruit smoothie (soaked almonds, walnuts, cashews, figs, and raisins) thrice a week or simple options like idli, poha, upma, or dosa. I aimed to eat only 60–70% of my stomach capacity.
Lunch: homemade meals like rotis (3 days a week), rice (2-3 days a week), and lots of boiled vegetables. I minimized sugar intake but occasionally had ladoos or sandesh (1-2 times a week). No junk food or cold drinks.
Dinner: By 7:30 PM, followed by green tea with lemon 30 minutes before bed.
Spiritual fasting: As a spiritual person, I fasted 3-4 days a month, consuming minimal fruits.

Workout routine

Morning: After dropping my daughter at the school bus, I walked 2-3 km or for 40-45 minutes.
Household chores: I did all the household work myself to stay active.
Evening: 20-30 minutes of home workouts (jogging, jumping jacks, and basic YouTube routines).
Night: A 30-minute walk with my kids and husband around 9 PM.
She followed this routine at least 5 days a week.

Changes experienced after weight loss

My varicose veins improved significantly. I can move freely and complete tasks without breathing problems. My confidence level is higher, and I feel lighter. I can wear all my dresses and take more pictures at functions and occasions.
