WWE Smackdown’s latest episode aired live from the Capital One Arena in Washinton DC on August 23. The show was packed with the latest build-up for the company’s upcoming premium live event Bash in Berlin 2024. Four high-intense fights were on the weekly event’s match card, including two title defences. Following a Cody Rhodes promo on the Grayson Waller Effect, the Washington crowd were treated to a United States Championship match between LA Knight and Santos Escobar. Women’s action featured a tag-team clash where Naomi joined forces with Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill. They squared off against Blair Davenport and the Unholy Union. The main event also included a team competition, featuring stars like Rhodes and Kevin Owens.

Cody Rhodes on the Grayson Waller Effect

The show kicked off with the Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes cutting a promo on the Grayson Waller Effect show. Waller introduced Rhodes to the crowd who soon made his way down to the arena. Waller next started complaining about how everything in the company was slowly becoming about the Universal Champion. Rhodes fired back with a video of Waller showcasing all the wrestlers he has betrayed in the past. Next, Kevin Owens sprinted out to the ring before attempting a Stunner on Waller. However, Waller narrowly escapes by pushing him into Rhodes.

Solo Sikoa makes changes in the Bloodline

Solo Sikoa began the segment by asking the Washington crowd to acknowledge him. The fans erupted to a Roman Reigns chant, sparking a reaction from the self-claimed Tribal Chief. Sikoa said that Reigns was done and whether it’s Kevin Owens or Cody Rhodes that emerges victorious in Bash in Berlin, he would be next in line for a shot. He then demanded Jacob Fatu to hand over his Tag Team Championship belt to Tanga Loa claiming that he couldn’t be a title holder if he was going to be the Tribal Chief’s enforcer. A hug between the two Bloodline members followed next.

Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens join forces

Following the opening segment of the show, Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens were placed in a tag-team match against A-Town Down Under. After some high-octane drama, Owens landed a Pop-Up Powerbomb on Grayson Waller for a pinfall win. Next, the commentary desk hyped up Owens’ upcoming match against Rhodes at Bash in Berlin. The camera then cut into the ring where it looked like Owens was going to blast Rhodes with the belt but forcefully handed it over to him. He then raised the champion’s arm before hugging him as the show went off-air.

Guerrillas of Destiny vs Street Profits for the WWE Tag Team Championship – Tama Tonga landed sliding reverse STO on Angelo Dawkins to retain the tag-team titles for the Guerillas.

A-Town Down Under vs Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens – Owens hit Grayson Waller with a Pop-Up Powerbomb to win the match by pinfall.
