Virat Kohli wishes Shikhar Dhawan on her international retirement
Taking to microblogging site X, Virat Kohli said Dhawan’s trademark smile will be missed in the Indian dressing room but his legacy will thrive.
Ace Indian batter Virat Kohli on Sunday penned a heartfelt note for Shikhar Dhawan who retired from international and domestic cricket. The latter posted a video on social media on Saturday morning, stating that he leaves the scene a content man, having represented the national team in all three formats since making his international debut in 2010.
A day after Dhawan’s announcement, Kohli wished his old mate a great future ahead. Taking to microblogging site X, the former Indian captain said Dhawan’s trademark smile will be missed in the Indian dressing room but his legacy will thrive.
“Shikhar, from your fearless debut to becoming one of India’s most dependable openers, you’ve given us countless memories to cherish. Your passion for the game, your sportsmanship and your trademark smile will be missed, but your legacy lives on. Thank you for the memories, unforgettable performances and always leading with your heart. Wishing you the best in your next innings, off the field Gabbar,” Kohli wrote on X.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri also extended his best wishes to Dhawan, saying that the latter is still young and have ample ways to contribute to the sport.

Your match-winning innings in ICC tournaments, Asia Cups, and that unforgettable knock in Galle will always be remembered. You’re still young and have plenty of ways to contribute to the sport. A player of the tournament in the ICC U19 World Cup triumph in 2004, Dhawan made steady progression and made a low-key ODI debut in 2010. He went on to become the player of the tournament in India’s Champions Trophy victory in 2013 by scoring the most runs (363) in the 2013 edition. Across formats, he made 10867 runs in International cricket – the 12th most for India – with 24 centuries and 79 fifty-plus scores.
